Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (DASS-21) a self-report scale designed to measure the negative emotional states of depression, anxiety and stress. The scale is suitable for diagnosis and outcome monitoring in clinical settings, as well as for mental health screening in non-clinical settings.

Interpretation

Total score (range: 0-63 points).

Depression (range: 0-21 points): dysphoria, hopelessness, devaluation of life, self-deprecation, lack of interest / involvement, anhedonia and inertia.

Anxiety (range: 0-21 points): autonomic arousal, skeletal muscle effects, situational anxiety, and subjective experience of anxious affect.

Stress (range: 0-21 points): levels of chronic nonspecific arousal, difficulty relaxing, nervous arousal, and being easily upset / agitated, irritable / over-reactive and impatient.
